Adult Advanced Beginner: Intro to Knits Sewing Lab

Knits are what we wear today but can be a challenge to sew and get the fit right. This class will teach you how to sew knit clothing that fits both your individual style, and also your unique body shape and size. We will use the Deer and Doe Plantain Tee pattern to sew a beautifully constructed and fitting t-shirt. The basic techniques learned in this class can also be applied to sewing other kinds of stretch fabrics like activewear, swimwear, and lingerie. The course is 7.5 hours in total, divided up between 3 weekly sessions. Limited class size of 4 students.

 

Skills you will learn:

  • How to take body measurements and make basic adjustments.
  • How to prep, how to cut, and how to mark knit fabrics.
  • How to handle construction with knit fabrics.
  • Specialty stitches, seams, and edge finishes for sewing with knits.
  • How to customize your T-shirt with the many pattern options offered.

Skills Expected:

  • This sewing class is designed for the student who has some basic garment sewing experience.
  • You know how to thread and use a sewing machine. You’ve sewn within the last 2 years.
  • Experience sewing straight seams. Experience sewing curved seams is helpful.
  • A general understanding of sewing patterns.

All fabric, tools and notions are included. Please specify your size so we can cut and pre-wash fabric prior to class.

Fee: $170

Ages 16 and up are welcome to take this class.
